Divorce is a scary word for many people. Divorces are most often filed when you and your spouse are not able to agree upon the issues of your marriage. These issues include custody of your children, child support, spousal support, payment of debt and property division. It is a lengthy process lasting anywhere from six months to eighteen months. If you are considering divorce, please contact my firm to set up a consultation. My divorce attorney firm will make you feel as comfortable as possible in taking this difficult step by keeping you informed of every stage of the divorce proceeding in a timely manner.
THE DIVORCE PROCESS
- A divorce commences by filing a Complaint in the proper Court.
- Each County has a Domestic Relations Division where the Complaint will be filed.
- In order to file a divorce, you must live in Ohio for at least six-months prior to filing the divorce.
- Determine which county is appropriate to file the divorce in (venue). There can be more than one venue for your case and our firm can help you determine which venue is proper.
Filing for divorce can also afford you certain protections that may be necessary for your situation. If requested, temporary orders are made after you file for divorce. Temporary orders will govern what will happen with custody, child support, spousal support or allocation of household expenses while the divorce is pending. My firm will assess your situation and advise how you should proceed with temporary orders. After the temporary orders are made, the case can go many directions depending on what issues are at stake. As a Cincinnati Divorce Attorney, I will guide you through the complicated procedures, advise you on what we believe is the best course of action, and alleviate some of the stress associated with this process by keeping you informed about the status of your case.
